Red Edition Red Bull
For when you tire of the plain ol' Red Bull has come out with Red Bull in a variety of flavors. I want to talk about the most eye catching of the current flavors, Red.
Red Bull the Red Edition is a cranberry energy drink that is true to it's package in that it does indeed taste like cranberry. Not like the cranberry juice you find in gallon jugs at the grocery store mind you, no that is for grandmas and masochists. The cranberry here is very present and tart, but not so tart as to force you to pucker up after every sip. On the back end the cran-kurblam! is quick to dissipate due to Red Bull's signature carbonated, thin consistency. Every sip is refreshing as opposed to making you feel like you just tried chugging maple syrup like some other drinks on the market today.
Now lets talk kick, what's in it? The 8.4 fl oz. can has 80mg of caffeine and the 12 fl oz. can has 114mg, for the real addict like me. What is interesting with RBR is the fact that taurine comes before caffeine on the ingredient list. Taurine is an amino acid found in meat and fish. Some (inconclusive) research suggests that it can be used to level out blood pressure and improve mental acuity. The result of less caffeine and sugar and more taurine for me seems to be heightened energy, but not so much of the jitters that I might otherwise have gotten from more syrupy caffeine packed sources. Keep in mind every body reacts different to different chemicals including caffeine, so ingest with caution.
If you are one of those mildly masochistic cranberry fans. If you want a more refreshing energy drink. If you want a caffeine kick without a jittery buzz. Red Bull Red is the energy drink for you.
